Self Esteem
Definition and Symptoms
Confidence in one’s own worth or abilities; self-respect. Symptoms of low self esteem often include poor confidence, lack of control, negative social comparison, worry and chronic self-doubt, trouble asking for favors or help.
Treatment
Self-treatment of low self esteem may involve recognition of situations that affect self-esteem, awareness of thoughts and beliefs, challenge negative thinking, adjustment of thoughts and beliefs. Cognitive behavioral therapy may be an additional option.
