What is a Psychological Emergency?

A psychiatric emergency is a situation in which the patient, family, or social unit determines that immediate action is necessary to preserve the patient’s life or the lives of others.

The Need for Collaboration

Emergency psychiatric treatment fills the gap between expensive ER appointments and excruciatingly lengthy office consultations.
Here at 365+ Care, we provide a wide range of services to our patients. We can help those in crisis by using a crisis assessment, short-term medication management, and/or crisis therapy to create a treatment regimen.

Anxiety and panic attacks

Anxiety and panic attacks, paranoia that someone is going to hurt you, feeling hopeless and helpless in the midst of a crisis, drug-induced hallucinations, being discharged from an ER because your condition does not warrant inpatient treatment, or having to wait three weeks to see your primary care provider because you missed your regular appointment are all very unpleasant situations. You need immediate access to a mental health professional and assistance in all of these situations.
Is going to the ER the best way to treat mental health issues? No, that’s the clearest answer. There are little mental health options available in the majority of community hospital ERs. It is common for them to do a medical examination, prescribe medicine for 3-7 days, and tell you to see your psychiatrist for follow-up. An appointment might take anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks on average.

In the middle of a crisis

The term “crisis assessment” refers to an evaluation in which a person’s complete medical history and current mental health status are obtained. The objective is to give assistance and develop a treatment plan that is successful.

Crisis treatment

Individual treatment for people in the midst of a crisis is known as crisis therapy. The objective is to teach people how to cope and how to get their emotional lives back on track.

medicine administration during a time of crisis
